step graduated from imperial college, london in 1990. he joined a
multi-disciplinary building engineering design team at ove arup & partners in london. there he worked with leading architects on the design of building structures worldwide.
in 1999 he worked in albania providing humanitarian assistance to kosovar refugees, then worked freelance on his return.
since then step has worked with a number of leading structural engineering companies on high quality cultural and residential buildings within the uk. these projects include the refurbishment of camden arts centre with tony fretton architects and the expansion of the whitechapel art gallery with robbrecht & daem. step currently works with tall engineers and he combines this with periods of humanitarian work overseas.
step began his collaboration with architectonic in 2007
