a small ‘ecohouse’ attaining code of sustainable homes, level 4.
timber framed breathing wall construction and highly insulated with sheep’s wool, the house is clad in locally sourced stone and timber.
the south and west elevations have large windows to capture solar heat gain in the winter which will help to heat the house. external solar blinds avoid excessive solar gain in the summer.
the building is provided with grey water harvesting, solar panels, heat recovery ventilation system and wood pellet burning stove with back boiler.
the building lies on a level change between the garden and the road. the plan uses the half level change and a double height space over the dining area to provide the house with a sense of opening out towards the garden.
