a self contained guest room within the garden of a sculptor and a quilt maker. the form and materials of the building make references to the client’s work.
the building sits adjacent an existing garden wall with its roof peeking above it. next this wall is the entrance, a tea making area, toilet, desk, and recess for a bed.
a curved, laminated timber structure forms the main body of the room. it is lined externally in timber shingles and internally in linen covered panels. one window, opposite the bed, looks into the garden.
the south facing glazed end looks out to a covered seating area and to the fields beyond.
